12U | Developing the Complete Player
At 12U, players begin transitioning from broad development toward more defined roles. Our focus expands to include position development, softball IQ, situational awareness, and learning how to contribute to a competitive team.
Players typically begin developing 2–3 primary positions
Greater emphasis on position-specific skills and game situations
Continued focus on strong fundamentals while introducing more advanced concepts
Players are expected to understand situations, make adjustments, and become more independent on the field
We may hit up to 12 players when appropriate based on the team and tournament
Playing time is not guaranteed or equal and will be influenced by preparation, attitude, effort, position, and game situation
Coaches will continue to look for opportunities for all players to contribute
Our goal is to develop players who understand not just how to play the game, but why we make certain decisions
Players are responsible for studying their positions outside of practice. This includes learning potential game situations, understanding their responsibilities, and knowing their options when the ball is hit to them or elsewhere on the field. Players should be able to anticipate what may happen, recognize their role in each situation, and make the appropriate decision rather than waiting for direction from a coach.
