14U | Advancing the Game
By 14U, players are becoming more specialized while continuing to develop as complete softball players. The pace and level of competition increase, and players are expected to take greater ownership of their preparation, performance, and role on the team.
Players are often focused on 1–2 primary positions while continuing to develop versatility when appropriate
Increased emphasis on advanced defensive skills, situational play, offensive approach, and game strategy
Players are expected to understand the game at a higher level and make adjustments throughout competition
Preparation, consistency, attitude, effort, and coachability become increasingly important
Depending on the team and competition, not every player may be included in the hitting lineup
Playing time is not guaranteed or equal and will be determined by the coaching staff based on the needs of the team and game situation
Coaches will continue to look for appropriate opportunities for every player to contribute
Our goal is to prepare athletes for higher levels of competitive softball while helping them develop confidence, independence, and a strong understanding of their role
Players are responsible for studying their positions outside of practice. This includes learning potential game situations, understanding their responsibilities, and knowing their options when the ball is hit to them or elsewhere on the field. Players should be able to anticipate what may happen, recognize their role in each situation, and make the appropriate decision rather than waiting for direction from a coach.
