16U | Competing With Purpose

At 16U, players are competing at a high level and are expected to take ownership of their development and preparation. Roles become more defined, and the focus shifts toward maximizing individual strengths while contributing to team success.

• Players are generally more specialized in their primary position or positions

• Some players may be utilized as utility players depending on their skills and the needs of the team

• Advanced position-specific development, game strategy, and situational awareness are emphasized

• Players are expected to prepare outside of team practices and take ownership of their development

• Offensive and defensive roles may become more specialized based on the needs of the team

• Not every player may be in the hitting lineup, particularly in more competitive tournaments

• Playing time is not guaranteed or equal and will be determined by the coaching staff based on performance, preparation, position, game situation, and team needs

• Coaches will continue to seek appropriate opportunities for players to contribute

• Players are responsible for studying their positions outside of practice. This includes learning potential game situations, understanding their responsibilities, and knowing their options when the ball is hit to them or elsewhere on the field. Players should be able to anticipate what may happen, recognize their role in each situation, and make the appropriate decision rather than waiting for direction from a coach.

• Our goal is to help athletes compete with confidence, understand their role, and continue developing toward high school, college, and other competitive opportunities
